Designed as the lexical companion to Wikipedia, the encyclopaedia project, Wiktionary has grown beyond a standard dictionary and now includes a thesaurus, a rhyme guide, phrase books, language statistics and extensive appendices. We aim to include not only the definition of a word, but also enough information to really understand it. Thus etymologies, pronunciations, sample quotations, synonyms, antonyms and translations are included. Wiktionary is a wiki, which means that you can edit it, and all the content is dual-licensed under both the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License as well as the GNU Free Documentation License. Crowd psychology is a branch of social psychology. Ordinary people can typically gain direct power by acting collectively. Historically, because large groups of people have been able to bring about dramatic and sudden social change in a manner that bypasses established due process, they have also provoked controversy. Social scientists have developed several different theories for explaining crowd psychology, and the ways in which the psychology of the crowd differs significantly from the psychology of those individuals within it. Carl Jung coined the notion of the Collective unconscious. Other major thinkers of crowd psychology include Gustave Le Bon, Wilfred Trotter, Gabriel Tarde, Sigmund Freud and Elias Canetti. Q. At school I'm going to do an oral presentation, titled: "The Individual In The Mob: How Do Orwell And Atwood Portray In "1984" And "The Handmaid s Tale" Respectively The Theme Of Mob Psychology Transforming Individuals And Making Them Behave In Ways The Otherwise Would Not?" In "The Handmaid's Tale", I'm going to analyze 2 scenes - Janine's "Testifying" (chapter 13) and the "Particicution" (chapter 43). In "1984" I'm going to analyze the "2 Minutes Hate" scene near the start of the book. Basically, I'm trying to show how strong phenomenon mob psychology is, in that it made sane characters (Offred and Winston) change into irrational ones who follow the delusions and ideals of the dystopia (when usually they would not).
